I want to summarize a few of the exciting things that you can look forward to. The convention’s opening day on July 12, features a sunset dinner cruise aboard Ovation, a majestic yacht on the beautiful Detroit River with classic Motown songs and band, excellent food, and drinks. The cruise will be a perfect opportunity to socialize with your old and new AKMG friends. On July 13, as we formally open the convention with traditional activities, a special ceremony will be held to release the much awaited ‘Archives of AKMG. ’ This coffee-table book contains the 33-year history of AKMG with articles from previous AKMG presidents and colorful pictures of past conventions and AKMG events. AKMG presidents in attendance will be recognized and honored during the ceremony. Please be sure to purchase a copy of the Archives at the pre-publication price of $85 on your convention registration form.

We shall have quality CME sessions on both Friday, July 13 and Saturday July 14 presented by excellent speakers, many of them our younger generation AKMG physicians. Other CME highlights include a poster session for residents and medical students with prizes for the best presentations.

The entertainment committee is hard at work to put together a memorable Campus Nite on Friday the 13th! Not only will we be entertained by our talented members from across the region, but also by Satish Menon, a hugely talented Malayalam singer performing. In addition, sports, special programs for children, youth, young AKMG, spousal activities and tours to local attractions will keep you and your family busy and entertained! As we close the convention on Saturday July 14 evening, the Gala Banquet will feature one of the most elaborate entertainment programs AKMG has ever undertaken! We will have the pleasure of listening to singer Padmabhushan K.J. Yesudas as he performs during the 50th year of his legendary musical career. On the stage, he will be joined by his son Vijay Yesudas, and singers Sujatha and Swetha for an unforgettable musical experience!

Once again, I invite you to attend the convention and help make this another landmark AKMG convention. I hope you’ll register early and take advantage of the early-bird registration rates! I look forward to seeing you all in Detroit!

ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM

Our AKMG conventions are renowned for quality and mesmerizing entertainment. This year’s AKMG convention shall be no different! Those who attended the AKMG’s Silver Jubilee Convention in Detroit know the high standards we had set then, and this year’s convention, the bar shall be set even higher! Here’s a glimpse of the entertainment that is in store for attendees!

Following convention registration on July 12, get set to board the spectacular Ovation Cruise Yacht steps away from the convention hotel! On board for your entertainment pleasure, we have a popular local band performing Motown hits and music that will delight you! Be ready to kick up your shoes and set to rock, roll and dance as you sail the Detroit River on a warm summer night and enjoy fabulous dinner, drinks, and the camaraderie of friends and your AKMG colleagues! Just note that the cruise dress code is business casual—and to make it even more fun and exciting, I’m planning on a INDIAN RETRO CLOTHES theme for the cruise. Check out the AKMG website for updates!

By the way, are you hiding a special talent – singing, dancing, musical, or dramatic, that you or a family member possesses? Don’t hide it, show it off! The Campus Nite on July 13 is YOUR stage! I also need your help and cooperation on another fun segment that I am working to put together for the Campus Nite - a segment on “Life in Kerala Medical College Campuses as we Remember.” It will be a sixty to ninety minute non-stop, music, dance, and comedy segment scripted to transport you down medical college memory lane! I need individuals or groups to participate and make this a fun event. When you sign up, I’ll send you the scripts that you and your friends can rehearse in your own cities and we’ll bring it all together on stage here at the convention. Please feel free to contact me and also suggest ideas and parts that can be meshed together in this segment. I am all eager to hear your ideas and suggestions. My telephone number is 248-706-0511. You can also email me at villi@comcast.net.

And finally, the Gala Banquet Night on July 14! We are delight-ed to present for your entertain-ment, the heart and soul of Malayalam music, the voice of Kerala him- self—K.J. Yesudas. In this 50th year of his contributions to the Malayalam music, Yesudas will regale us with his singing accompanied by his equally talented son, Vijay Yesudas along with the sweet and melodious voices of Sujatha and Swetha Menon.

I cannot wait for the excitement of the convention to begin! How about you? In the meantime, remember the Campus Nite segment request I made for participation, please do and together I promise, we’ll make it a huge fun-filled entertainment segment at the convention’s Campus Nite!

I very much look forward to seeing you all here in Detroit!
