35th AKMG Annual Convention in Las Vegas , August 14-16, 2014
Dear AKMG friends,
As many amongst you already know, the 35th AKMG Annual Convention will be held at the famed Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas from August 14th through 16th, 2014. The contract with the hotel has been signed and in the next few days, we hope to have a dedicated webpage linked to the official akmg.org website established for the convention, so that we can provide updates regarding the convention programs and also the hotel reservation link.
The easiest way to remember the convention dates is to realize that India's 67th Independence Day falls on August 15th, 2014.Please mark your calendar now and block off these dates from your schedule so that you can enjoy Las Vegas with your family and friends.
We chose Las Vegas as the destination city after very careful considerations and elaborations; we looked at several other possible venues including Kovalam/Trivandrum, India. The reasons to choose Las Vegas and the Bellagio hotel became almost a no-brainer as we lined up the pros and cons. The following is a Las Vegas McCarran airport is served by probably the most number of flights in the world by summary of the same. Please visit www.lasvegasnevada.gov also.
- Every major US and international airlines fly in to Las Vegas, so the airfares are very competitive and attractive. There are various inexpensive modes of transportation from the airport to the Bellagio hotel.
- The weather, though hot, is a bit mellow by mid-August. Almost the entire Las Vegas strip can be walked in air conditioned comfort, as all the area hotels and businesses allow open access to any one walking the strip.
- World class entertainment, suited for all ages and tastes are available within walking distance, so many to list, but including shows like the famed Cirque Du Soleil , the Blue Man group, Santana, Penn & Teller, Jersey boys, David Copperfield, Rod Stewart, etc. Cirque alone has several shows including KA, O, Michael Jackson ONE [new], Mystere, Zumanity, Zarkana etc.
- Great world famous attractions are easily conveniently accessed within 1-3 hours of travel from Las Vegas, like the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Hollywood, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Yosemite National Park-the list is almost endless.
- Our Convention hotel, Bellagio, apart from being rated as the top hotel in Las Vegas, has the world famous musical fountains that attract thousands every day.
- The room rates at the Bellagio under the AKMG contract is less than 40% of the advertised rates and these low rates are guaranteed for 7 days around the AKMG Convention dates when booked using the dedicated web-link or Convention code.
Our AKMG President Hari Parameswaran and myself recently attended the ATMG-UK {Association of Trivandrum Medical College Graduates} Convention in the U.K. in September 2013 and came away with the clear impression that dozens of our colleagues in the UK are planning to attend the 2014 Las Vegas AKMG Convention. We expect several friends of AKMG from various countries and regions including the UK, Middle East and India to join us at Las Vegas. We plan to offer several area tours and programs before and after the convention dates for our guests who are planning to spend a few extra days.
The Las Vegas AKMG Convention will comply with the general lay out of the typical AKMG convention festivities including Campus Comedy and India/Kerala themed entertainment programs. However, we do plan to incorporate themes relating to the 67th India Independence Day; various entertainment activities unique to Las Vegas will be on the menu, as we plan to block off hundreds of seats for AKMG guests to popular shows that may get sold out months ahead of the convention dates.
